E-mail Forgotten But Not Lost

Have you ever had to use one of those recovery CD's to restore your system? That is exactly what one company did to correct problems with one of their computers.

At the time, there was no need to save the existing e-mail. As time passed, the importance of having the old e-mail became apparent. We received a call from them about a month later. They contacted SB Consulting in hopes that we could recover their old e-mail.

Although there was no urgency to have access to the old e-mail, they could not be without the computer for any extended time. We determined that performing an image of the existing hard drive would allow us to return the computer promptly and provide us with the necessary time to properly analyze and recover the e-mail.

We received the computer in the late afternoon via courier and began imaging the drive. The following morning, the courier picked up the computer and returned it to the company as we started our analysis on the image. Total time without the computer was estimated to be around 2 to 3 working hours.

During our evaluation, we determined that we could recover almost 2000 e-mail messages with attachments totaling just under 400MB dating back over 2 years. The e-mail messages were recovered before the end of that day, placed on a CD and delivered to the client.
